Relocation Offer for 2020 Bookings - £300 Discount!
11th November 2019
Since moving back to Aberdeen, the Emerson Photography website has fallen off Google's radar. After over a decade of building up word of mouth recommendations, I'm now pretty much starting over again and having to rebuild all that goodwill - easier said than done!

It's a bit of a mammoth task really and although I've been lucky enough to have started photographing some absolutely gorgeous weddings back on home turf in Aberdeenshire, I'd obviously love to be booking many more!
One thing about starting from scratch again is that I've had to bite the bullet and reduce my prices. Drastically! One of the changes includes an introductory offer of £300 off my eight hours coverage fee which was £1080, now reduced to just £880 which is in line with most new start businesses in my area!
Putting myself in prospective clients' shoes gives me a bit of an insight - I no longer have that local word of mouth thing going on, so for a wee while at least, I'm going to have to compete on price, swallow my pride, and prove myself as an unknown name. The upside is, it's actually very refreshing to rethink everything from the ground up. I've spent the last year analysing what's worked for both my clients and for Emerson Photography, and what hasn't. I've reappraised all my cameras / lenses, lighting kit etc and replaced anything which needed it to ensure the very best results.
The most important part of any photographic business is, well, the photographs! So I've slowly been overhauling what people see on my site and hopefully, it now gives a pretty accurate representation of the way I work, and what my couples can expect. Much as I still enjoy taking a bride and groom away from it all for 10 minutes for a few loosely guided portraits, it's still the case that 99% of photos are unposed and undirected. I'm there not just to record the day but to anticipate stories before they unfold and be in the right place at the right time. I'm looking for those pools of interesting light and waiting to get *that* image. To notice what the light is doing, to be aware of what's in the background, to have an eye for good composition!
If you ask any photographer who's been at it for more than a few years, they'll tell you that all this stuff happens without really thinking about it - you see things out of the corner of your eye whilst lining up another shot and just store it up for later... Much like knowing where all the buttons on the camera are without having to look :-)
Anyway, enough musing and rambling - do please feel free to spread the word if you know of anyone who's looking for a photographer for their Aberdeenshire wedding!
